FREDERICTON -- Transportation Minister Robert McCready said he will look into allegations that CN Rail cutbacks and regulations ate creating a safety hazard.
Frank Branch (L-Nepisiguit-Chaleaur) raised the issue in connection with a train derailment in Brunswick Mines last February. The train did not have adequate brakes and a serious mishap was avoided only by the work of the train's engineer, Wesley MacDonald, who Branch called ``a real hero.''
MacDonald is currently serving a suspension from work for not following company procedures. Branch called the railway's treatment of MacDonald ``shabby,'' and McCready promised to look into the case.
